Another area where my love for medieval adventure has come out this summer is through homeschooling my kids. I like to school them year-round so they are homeschooling over the summer (they attend a Montessori school during the school year). Of course, kids don’t want to school over the summer, so I’ve developed some special motivations for them. One is the Color-by-Lesson chart I made up. It’s a color-by-number poster on 11x14 paper. Each day the kids get their homeschool done they can color in fifteen spots. The poster will slowly reveal a coded picture. By the time they finish it near the end of summer, they will together have to decode the message, which will lead them to the next clue, and the next, throughout the house, until they receive the final message. This message will have on it what their large reward will be for working so hard over the summer. I don’t know yet what that reward will be, which is why the poster code leads to a scavenger hunt around the house, which I can set up later.
