It’s so easy to do, especially when you get that surge of energy with the coming of Fall in September. There are so many things which are exciting and promising, and next you thing you know you’ve committed yourself to all manner of important projects. And you have so much energy, you’re having the time of your life working on them all.
Then the weather gets colder. With the snow, your energy starts to drop and you just want to hunker down in your home and focus on the simple pleasures of cooking, reading and sipping hot chocolate. You know the holidays are looming and you really want to just focus on them. You’ve been at all the projects for 4-6 weeks and you’re burning out. Something’s gotta give!
How do you make your choices? If the projects are mostly fluff, then it should be fairly easy to back out, pass them on or just drop them altogether. But what if they are important things, or something like a job which you can’t just quit?
Unless you’re a single parent, most of us have the choice. We can choose to just live simply, say no to commitments, and give ourselves lots of free time to focus on our interests at the moment, as well as the simple things like decorating and keeping a comfy home, or making rich hot chocolate from scratch. This is an enjoyable way to live life.
Or we can choose to do something fulfilling and important, such as a career or volunteering, something that will make a difference in others’ lives (besides just our own family). The cost may be high at times. Is it worth having a messy house more often than not, not having the energy to cook nice suppers, having less time and energy for ourselves and our families? Which is more important? How do you decide?
