I realized recently, with all of these thoughts about simplifying, that this is an ongoing desire I've had and that God has already started leading me with specific directions. Some months ago He specifically told me to pay off my clothing credit cards and then cancel them, and to also cancel all catalogs coming into our home. So I've been working on that, and I hope that next month will be my last payment on my last card.
Yesterday I went through my wardrobe. I got rid of about 1/4 of my clothes. About 1/2 I put into the trunk, as I'm not sure I want to get rid of them, but I'll live without them for now. So I kept only 1/4 of my clothes. I was able to get rid of all of my hangers, and instead have my clothes folded in little stacks on the wire shelf in my open closet.
Yesterday I considered cancelling my CD music club, but was hesitating. Today God told me to do it. So I just did.
He also led me to clean up my Netflix list even more, getting rid of most of the movies. The only movies I kept were ones with Christian themes (The End of the Spear) and the Miyazaki movies my whole family loves to discover together (The Cat Returns, Spirited Away, etc.). I also kept the TV shows both dh and I and the kids are favoring right now (getting rid of one of them).
It's neat how the Lord will challenge and disciple you if you ask Him to.
