I’ve been reading from the Gospel of Luke this past week. It seems that almost every morning Jesus shows me something new from the passage I read. It’s so great! I thought I should write some of these down so I don’t forget them.
I read the part where some others are casting out demons in Jesus’ name, and Jesus’ disciples asked Jesus about them because they are not a part of their group, and wondered if they should stop them. But Jesus tells them not to stop their work, and states that “anyone who is not against me is for me.” And I realized that this is perhaps the first recorded instance, if you will, of denominationalism. The disciples felt that the other group should be stopped because they were not a part of them. Yet Jesus honored them, even though they were working separately—he saw all as one. I think people tend to see differences and denominations where Jesus/God sees only unity. All saints are a part of His bride, the world over, and that’s what He sees—He doesn’t see the Baptists, and the Catholics, and the Methodists, etc. He just sees His beautiful unified bride—all of his people everywhere who belong to Him.
