Cutting Down Electricity Usage and Tasting Battered Pumpkin Blossoms

August 1, 2007: Today I focused on using as little electricity as possible. This meant not turning on any lights during the day, relying instead on only natural light. In the evening, I kept all extra lights off, and kept the kitchen lights pretty dim, it had a candle-light feel.

I read the sourdough bread recipe from No Impact Man and mixed together my starter.

For supper we had Chicken Lemon Stew, homemade bread, and from the garden, battered pumpkin blossoms and sauteed squash coins.

After supper I craved sweets and I cheated and found the opportunity to indulge in an ice-cream sundae from Baskin Robbins.

I am reading the book Living the Good Life and enjoying it.

(In case you're wondering about the stew, I just made it up from the leftovers of Lemon Garlic Chicken--I had a lot of broth left over, so it became a delicious lemony stew.)
