September has hit me like a wave--every day, week and weekend, something new is happening.
But to pick up where I left off, I received 3 Amish dresses in the mail. The first thing I noticed was the fabric--I was expecting 100% cotton, or something with mostly cotton in it, but this seems very much a polyester--too plastic-feeling for me. Definitely would not want this kind of fabric in any quilt.
I hadn't been careful enough about sizing, so eager was I to get inexpensive dresses. So, unfortunately, only one of the three fit me. And, unfortunately, that one happens to be the ugliest of them all.
The first two are pretty, one is a pale aqua color, the other a light sage green. I even tried to alter them, but I just can't stretch them up a whole size.
The one that fits me is a dull gray. When I put it on, I look like a dowdy old lady. I thought, Sean won't want to see me in this--he wants his wife to look attractive! Although, if I wear it with the white amish apron, it looks okay. Except that I look Amish, which I'm not.
So, I may take apart the gray dress and use it as a pattern to make my own dresses, out of my own fabric choices. I'm not sure yet what to do with the other two--amish dresses, anyone? They're about a size 8-10.
Except for a few days on the weekends, I've been wearing my own modest dresses and skirts & tops every day. They are so comfortable.
I'm guessing that the thing which appeals to me about the amish dresses is the fact that they are basically pioneer clothes, to a large degree, worn in modern times. I definitely do enjoy wearing pioneer clothes, and will sometimes wear them around everywhere. A store clerk once asked me if I was in a play! I simply said, no.
