Telling Our Story Through Song

In response to questions about church life, I have written some posts here and there about my experiences in our radical community home church. But often it's hard to convey our full experience. But out of our fellowship with Christ and His Body comes songs, written ourselves, often to popular tunes. I think several of these express our experience more fully. So I'm going to share some of our favorites with you in the next few posts. These are our richest songs--enjoy them. (And if you don't know the tune, try searching for it on ITunes or the internet, you'll probably be able to hear enough of the song to appreciate it.)

This song was born out of a new home church that was debating doctrinal differences. When the Spirit finally broke through to them, they realized some amazing truths, became unified, and stayed up almost all night writing this song. It's to the tune of "Hard Fightin' Soldier".

I'M A HOLY CHILD OF GOD

Well I'm a holy child of God

I got His Spirit deep inside

A living stone He used to build the city

Where He now resides;

I am a part of His companion

That He pulled from His own side

I am a piece of Jesus' body

And a part of His bride.

My God is more than ocean deep

And He is more than river wide

There is no universe that's big enough

to hold my God inside;

But look in me and you will see

That's where eternal God resides!

As we draw nearer to our Jesus

He draws nearer to His bride.

When I'm alone this world is hard

It's like I'm on a battlefield.

But when the body gets together

There's no force to which we yield.

Then we can look into the other realm

And see what was concealed

We go deeper into Jesus

And His fullness is revealed!

(repeat 1st verse)

'Cause I'm a holy....
