The Benefits of Peppermint

I am currently learning herbology in my spare time, so you will be learning some of it along with me.

I never realized what a wonder herb is peppermint. It can ease any kind of stomach ache, including menstrual cramps, gas bloating, indigestion and nausea. Today I felt a wave of nausea and a small headache, fighting some kind of virus, I think. I made an infusion of peppermint tea, and as soon as I started drinking it, the nausea and headache left me! In fact, I felt really great!

Peppermint is known for taking away headaches, and helps against insomnia as well. Plus, it is amazingly easy to grow, and tastes great!

In order to get the medicinal benefits of any herb, you must steep the herb for at least 20 minutes. I just bring an almost full medium pot of water to boil, take it off the heat, add a small handful of the herb, put on a lid and let it steep for 20 minutes.

You can learn this and more from www.learningherbs.com.

You can also add a pinch to a teaspoon of dried ginger to your cup, or peel and sliver fresh ginger root and steep with the mint.  Ginger works really well for nausea, and the peppermint oils relax the small muscles in the bowels.  My kids know that peppermint/ginger infusion is my remedy for "what ails you":o)
